Solyanik estimates in harmonic analysis

Let $\mathcal{B}$ denote a collection of open bounded sets in $\mathbb{R}^n$, and define the associated maximal operator $M_{\mathcal{B}}$ by $$M_{\mathcal{B}}f(x) := \sup_{x \in R \in \mathcal{B}} \frac{1}{|R|}\int_R |f|.$$ The sharp Tauberian constant of $M_{\mathcal{B}}$ associated to $\alpha$, denoted by $C_{\mathcal{B}}(\alpha)$, is defined as $$C_{\mathcal{B}}(\alpha) := \sup_{E :\, 0 < |E| < \infty}\frac{1}{|E|}\big|\big\{x \in \mathbb{R}^n:\, M_{\mathcal{B}}\chi_E (x) > \alpha\big\}\big|.$$ Motivated by previous work of A. A. Solyanik, we show that if $M_{\mathcal{B}}$ is the uncentered Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator associated to balls, the estimate $$\lim_{\alpha \rightarrow 1^-}C_{\mathcal{B}}(\alpha) = 1$$ holds. Roper Excitation in Alpha-Proton Scattering

We study the Roper excitation in the $(\alpha,\alpha')$ reaction. We consider all processes which may be relevant in the Roper excitation region, namely, Roper excitation in the target, Roper excitation in the projectile, and double $\Delta$ excitation processes. The theoretical investigation shows that the Roper excitation in the proton target mediated by an isoscalar exchange is the dominant mechanism in the process. We determine an effective isoscalar interaction by means of which the experimental cross section is well reproduced. This should be useful to make predictions in related reactions and is a first step to construct eventually a microscopic $NN \rightarrow NN^*$ transition potential, for which the present reaction does not offer enough information.Comment: Latex 17 pages; figures available by request; Phys. Can María speak?: Interpreting Ixcanul/Volcano (2015) from a decolonial perspective

This article explores, describes and analyses the material, linguistic and cultural framework in which the central conflict in Ixcanul/Volcano (Bustamante, 2015) and its mise-en-scène operate, considering the film as an example of an intertextual practice that succeeds in connecting oral and dramatic traditions to a filmic register. By analysing how the film aims to be realistic and locate itself within a contemporary Guatemalan context, this study argues that, due to the film’s political intentions, themes and intended audience, Ixcanul challenges several power structures that preclude decolonial dialogue in the country. Furthermore, by describing how the subaltern subject, María, endures and resists strategies of invisibilization, I read Ixcanul in light of analytical tools drawn from postcolonial and decolonial frameworks to disentangle the structures of domination – the coloniality of power – represented in the film

Evaluación de variedades de caña de azúcar (Saccharum spp.) para la producción de panela en linares departamento de Nariño

Con el fin de mejorar la producción de panela, en el municipio de Linares, Nariño (01º 21’ 22.4”Norte y 77º 31’ 77.5”Oeste), se evaluó el comportamiento agronómico y agroindustrial de siete variedades de caña de azúcar. Se empleó un diseño estadístico de bloques completos al azar con siete tratamientos y tres repeticiones. Los resultados mostraron que las variedades CC 84-75, CC 85-92, CC 85-47 y RD 75-11, presentaron bajo volcamiento, las cuales pueden ser consideradas promisorias para la producción de panela. Las seis variedades de caña y el testigo presentaron buen comportamiento fitosanitario ante la presencia de las enfermedades Bipolaris sacchari (mancha de ojo) y Leptosphaeria sacchari (mancha de anillo) y por tanto se clasifica como resistente bajo condiciones naturales de infección. Las seis variedades introducidas mostraron comportamiento similar al testigo en incidencia de daño por el barrenador Diatraea spp. y rendimiento de panela el cual osciló entre 10.77 t.ha-1 y 16.15 t.ha-1 sin diferencias significativas entre tratamientos (p > 0.05)

La Coalición por una radiodifusión democrática: regeneración del espacio público y ejercicio de ciudadanía

Tras décadas de reclamos y propuestas generadas desde diversos sectores políticos y sociales fue promulgada en Argentina la Ley de Servicios de Comunicación Audiovisual 26.522. El tratamiento de los procesos intervinientes en la comprensión de esta posibilidad histórica articulan dimensiones que exceden los alcances de este artículo donde queremos dedicarnos, de manera específica, a explorar un aspecto significativo en nuestra perspectiva de abordaje: ¿cómo participó la ciudadanía y, más específicamente, cómo participó la Coalición por una Radiodifusión Democrática en la construcción de esa posibilidad? En particular, en este trabajo, nos abocaremos al análisis de un aspecto específico del impacto político de la Coalición: su efecto performativo; es decir, su capacidad de instalar el tema de la comunicación mediática como asunto de ciudadanía. Nuestra hipótesis es que este efecto perfomativo resulta fundamental tanto para la comprensión del efecto estratégico e institucional de la Coalición, como para establecer una comprensión compleja de la dimensión político-cultural de la propia demanda
